carpet cleaning halted by snow

Its that time of year again where snow and ice halt play as we could not get out yesterday I went onto some carpet cleaning forums to see how others were doing across the country well I will let you the reader decide what you think!………

To work or not to work in the snow

He we go again only a month or two early this year! Most of the country comes to a standstill…….. the phone rings but instead of the pre christmas bonanza its customers cancelling due to the inclement weather but learning from past experiences of going out in such conditions we have called time untill things clear up abit, a killer financially but it would be even worse if you lost your van and use of truckmount!

Only about 8″ of snow here so …………….I was out yesterday cleaning upholstery and I’ll be out today.cleaning a leather suite.

How would you feel if you were unable to get your regular shopping, or repairs to central heating, etc, done because someone could’nt be bothered making an effort

We’ve had it up here in Whitby for nearly a week with n sign of stopping. You’ve just got to way it up but as you say no point in risking van etc for a few £. Have all on keeping the gear from freezing .Getting t most jobs ok, diary full .
Give up trying to get more winter tyres for the transporter nobody’s got any !

Whilst its commendable to have such a bulldog spirit ……your quote (because someone could’nt be bothered making an effort) begs some questions?
one being if you own a truck mount and wish to go out in such weather and you have an accident or more likely…… some dipstick ploughs into you…… you are stuffed…. this happened last year and because they were not insured we lost our no claims + £350 excess and 10 days of van being of road with subsequent income loss .
Two, very few clients want there carpets cleaned with portables when you have sold them the advantages of the truck mount and Robert your clients must be something special because none of ours want their carpets or upholstery cleaned in weather such as we are at present experiencing! They…. not us are the ones cancelling!
Another point for consideration is if you insist your operators work in such conditions what would be the outcome if they slipped on ice and broke a limb

Took the easy way out and cancelled ,my little van did a 360 last year so not chancing it. Custy’s ok with it so far.
Pretty thick here in the south east.

as long as we can get out and customers want us its business as usual here.
with regard to risking van and equipment…. isnt that a risk every time you get behind the wheel?
this country beggars belief at times….. a little bit of adverse weather and everything comes to a standstill.

There are some stalwart cleaners out there!…….. but I dont think some of you guys understand my point!
If it was law that everyone had to use snow chains or snow socks like the rest of Europe, then people would be able to drive in such conditions but you get morons driving like they are out on a mid summers day dash to the beach still…… check out the insurance stats for such spells of weather! there is often a twenty fold increase in claims made worse because local government haven’t got the proper resources for clearing roads and unlike America where if you went a**e over tip on a clients iced covered driveway or footpath injuring yourself you could sue!…….. Here 9 out of 10 people cannot even be bothered to clear their footpaths let alone driveways! Also if you employ people and they injured themselves because you had instructed them to work Iam sorry to say you would be liable especially with the present appetite for health and safety in the Uk, but if you are self employed and have got no qualms about the increased risk to loss of livelihood and injury then by all means fill your boots

I had a pair of those snowsocks on last year, got them off ebay. They are brill. and easy to put on. I got around quite easily only got stuck once and that was my fault.

Trouble is they got thrown out in the summer cos they were in the wrong box! Gonna get some more today.

I got snow socks for all our vehicles ! but its like pantomime on ice on Essex roads at the moment…… I keep on saying it does not matter how careful you are its the others road users and some are not fit to drive in decent weather let alone these adverse conditions

A female cleaning carpets in Essex, No I am not being chauvinistic I think it’s a great idea!

Lucy is working as a carpet cleaner in Essex and trades under the name carpet cleaners wickford, Its nice to see a lady cleaner working in this predominantly male of carpet and upholstery cleaning but the advent of truckmount carpet cleaning has made it easier whereas formally one would have to lift very heavy machinery to and from the van and as lucy has said these machines were too heavy for her to lift.

Lucy has been working as a cleaner now for 5 years and learnt her trade working with her brother Luke and Father who both have extensive experience in the trade

One of the primary benefits a lady has in carpet cleaning is that in East London many potential female clients who are devout muslims are not comfortable having a male in their home and this bodes well for Lucy who on occasion has worked for Muslim women overcoming the issues that would prevent a man working in their home.

And one has to accept that some women for whatever reason are more comfortable having a lady to do the work of cleaning their carpets.

Carpet Cleaning in Chelmsford Essex

Well we are in to February now and hopefully the weather will stay mild in Essex so the phones will start ringing with all those clients in need of carpet cleaning. One area of Essex we have had a presence in for years now but feel we could do better in as carpet cleaners is Chelmsford and all its surrounding towns like Great Baddow, Braintree, South Woodham Ferrers, Maldon, and Galleywood. A lot of people have moved from London in the last ten years or so and these are clients I feel as carpet cleaners Essex based we should be making more effort to target these individuals so that is a goal we have set our selves for 2010, making ourselves more noticeable in these towns especially Chelmsford through advertising and marketing strategies.

Roll on spring time and lots of carpet cleaning

Hi to every one

Well the weather has brightened up a tad but the phone lines are still a bit quite for clients wanting their carpets cleaned this time of year! that always the way though after a bad weather spell you get used to it after nearly 30 years of cleaning carpets. Have been counting the cost of the cold snap though in unscheduled repairs !

£400 worth of damage to van where it slid of a driveway and bank end caught a tree,

£300 for new spring and labour costs after car hitting pothole check this info out!

£250 for repairs to wipers on van (frozen and stripped threads)

£100 Replacement Battery on van

Roll on Spring time when the carpet and upholstery cleaning business kicks in to full gear again

The weather halts our work carpet cleaning in Essex.

Hi everone

Driving to and from several different locations a day in a van with over a metric ton of truck mounted carpet cleaning equipment and water tanks has become far to hazardous, the side roads are sheets of ice in places and the pathways and driveways to and from peoples homes are a hazard in their own right for carrying the hoses and carpet cleaning tools from the van to the clients house! (No one seems to clear their pathways any more from the snow) the main culprits though are the people sitting snug in their local government jobs who have a responsibility to make sure our roads are safe they still get paid if they cannot get to work! Self employed carpet cleaners don’t!

Hi Folks

Well I have got to say 1^st off I must eat my words of the last post! the weather has taken its toll including a little lump out the side of the van it literally slid backwards and caught a tree (the tree is fine you will be pleased to know) the van needs a little bit of repair work but the result of this little encounter is that as a collective all of us have decided its just far to dangerous to carry on our work as carpet cleaners in Essex so financially this week has been a disaster but we are all still in one piece.

Time to get some work done in the office and hope the weather breaks after the weekend

And to snuggle up to the wife a bit more! (wishful thinking)

Hi folks

Got me thermals on to day its cold here in sunny old England but I must be a wimp compared to what our brothers who are carpet cleaning in America and Canada endure with regards to the cold! How on earth do they manage to work? (Please let us know) Mind you they are well organized for it the clowns who run local government back in the UK are already running out of salt to grit the roads with.

One cold snap and the whole infrastructure in the UK comes to a halt but wait for it not carpet cleaners essex, no the heater was on in the van last night mug of tea slice of toast and of to work we will go come rain or shine or in this case snow and ice!

(Rule no1 never let clients down) I really should have said don’t forget to put the heater on in the van! no seriously If the client has booked in short of a calamity at carpet cleaners Essex we have always tried to keep an appointment, mind you before Christmas I did take my ice skates along for some practice being towed along behind the van.
